Rising indie-pop duo Say Lou Lou have opened up about sexism in the music industry, arguing that people should be more concerned with Robin Thicke than the image of Beyonce.

Speaking to Gigwise backstage at this year's Live At Leeds festival before their brilliant performance, the duo discussed the recent comments made by Warpaint about the sexualised image and behaviour of Beyonce

"I've been quite into the whole Warpaint discussion," said Miranda Kilbey. "We love Warpaint, we love Beyonce too and it doesn't have to be either/or. Feminism isn't black or white, I can be sexual or not sexual, it's my choice."

Sister Elektra Kilbey added: "I think that if you're a woman in your 30s, you've had a baby, you're in your 30s, you're married and you choose to show your sexuality on stage, I don't see how that is degrading women or yourself."

Miranda continued: "However, when you see 14-year-old girls who don't know any better, I can wonder 'who put them up to this' for example. It's everyone's prerogative to do what they want. Shaming Miley Cyrus or whoever is counter-productive, all of the girls should stick together and stand up for each other.

"There are so many other things worth arguing about, like Robin Thicke saying that he's going to split someone's ass in two. Can we argue about that instead of talking about Miley Cyrus stripping? We can talk about what power we have and other things in feminism that are more important."

Discussing the media's perception and representation of female artists, Elektra said: "We can also talk about how if you do a survey on articles about female bands, also every interview about a woman, you mention her age and who produced her tracks and what he's done before. If it's an article about males, they never mention their age or who produced their album."

Miranda continued: "One more thing you can say that you can definitely print, that annoys the fuck out of me, I was going to tweet about it today, is this notion of 'a girl band'. Should we start calling The Beatles a boy band? Or shall we start calling Arctic Monkeys a boyband?

"We're all just bands. The fact that they put 'girl' before just to make sure that no one misconceives anything and they're just girls playing instruments is so annoying and old-fashioned."
