Lily Allen says she hates listening to her own music in public, and has admitted she is 'horrified' when she hears her tracks being played in clubs and pubs.

The outspoken singer has no problem tackling critics on Twitter and in interviews, but tells GQ magazine that she hates hearing her own music in public, and finds herself unable to celebrate her own hits in front of others.

"Usually if I'm in a club and my music comes on I find the nearest table and hide underneath it. That's generally how I deal with it," she tells GQ. "It's quite funny because in some places they think that's the appropriate thing to do when someone like myself walks in, is to play their song.

"I think I might be different to most people in the sense that I react: I'm horrified when that happens and hide. I'm sure some people get on the table and dance 'Woo hoo! This is great.' But I can't do that."

Allen has taken an unusual approach to promoting her new album Sheezus, having previously admitted that she found the singles released from the record 'beige' and agreed with a fan on Twitter when her new music was described as 'disappointing'. She had the last laugh this week, however, when Sheezus topped the UK album chart, giving her the second chart topper of her career so far.
