The internet has, inevitably, basically exploded after footage emerged of Solange Knowles attacking her sister's husband, Jay-Z, in a lift in a New York hotel.
It's understandable as to why - Beyonce and Jay-Z have worked hard to cultivate the image of a perfect, harmonious family unit and have remained scandal-free since they married in 2008. It goes without saying, however, that bad things happen to everybody at some point. Even multi-millionaire power couples.
A quick scan of Twitter in the hours following the incident shows about five jokes repeated roughly 1000 times with slight variations. We're not going to publish those, because you'll have seen them already and they're not actually that funny. Here's the most sensible reactions we've seen in reponse to elevator-gate.
#WhatJayZSaidToSolange is all fun & games but.. 1) would it be funny if it was the other way round? 2) how much did TMZ pay for the footage?

Quick glance at #WhatJayZSaidToSolange trend. Apparently twitter thinks domestic violence is funny. Not like it kills 1000s each year...

While this whole Solange Knowles vs. Jay-Z thing is kinda funny; especially with Beyoncé just standing there. It's sad that someone has...

Yo.. all these posts about Jay-Z and Solange are kinda annoying. We don't know what happened & we shouldn't care. It's their private life!

I've got 99 problems and they're all to do with that joke about Solange being Jay Z's 100th problem. Fucking wind it in, you quilts.

Nobody knows what happened (and if you click on a link claiming to be leaked audio from the incident, you'll probably be awarded with a nasty virus), and with Bey and Jay's history of shying away and refusing to comment on scandals, we'll probably never know. For now though, if we see one more "joke" about Solange's career and the direction of the elevator...
