Malcolm McLaren has denied accusations that he plagiarised a French composer for a song from the soundtrack to the movie Kill Bill 2.
The former Sex Pistols manager allegedly copied the work of Benjamin Beduneau, also known as Lancelot, for the song ‘About Her’.
The BBC reports that a lawyer for McLaren told a court in Angers, France that his client was the true author of the song. Bruno Ryterband added that the music was created from sample Mclaren had asked Beduneau to compile for him.
Beduneau contends that the music was actually taken from a piece called ‘Smith Ballad’ which he submitted to McLaren for a tribute project to fashion designer Christian Dior. He also said that he’d registered the song with the French performers rights body Sacem in 2003.
Ryterband told the court that McLaren had copyrighted the song in the UK and US although he admitted that Mclaren, who wasn't present, can’t play any musical instruments.
