Dave Grohl has discussed Foo Fighters' upcoming album in a new interview, admitting that they considered making a "crazy, bleak Radiohead record."

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the band, who have released seven albums since forming in 1995, and have sold a combined 11.1 million records.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Foo Fighters will be releasing their own cable docu-series, as well as releasing a new album.

Speaking of the band's new LP to Billboard, Grohl said: "As we were coming down from the success of the last record, I thought, 'Now we have license to get weird'."

He added: "If we wanted, we could make some crazy, bleak Radiohead record and freak everyone out. Then I thought, 'F- that.'"

Grohl also discussed how instead of just "banging out these big choruses, because that's what we do, we're banging them out in the middle of instrumental sections that will take you by surprise. The music is a progression or an evolution, for sure, but it's a Foo Fighters record."

Foo Fighters' eighth album is scheduled for release in Autumn of this year.
