The Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger has become the latest artist to shareh his opinion of Glastonbury's controversial third headliner Metallica, saying: "They're going to be great."

The singer is something of an authority on the subject - The Rolling Stones headlined the festival themselves last year, and their set received a mixed reaction.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Jagger said: "I've seen them live and they're going to be great." He added that his band had a "great time" headlining the event.

After much speculation, Metallica were revealed as the festivals third and final headliner earlier this month, joining Kasabian and Arcade Fire.

Speaking of the announcement, drummer Lars Ulrich said: "In Metallica we have a saying called a no-brainer. Headlining Glastonbury is a no-brainer." That's actually a saying everywhere Lars.

Glastonbury festival takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from Wednesday 25 to Sunday 29 June, 2014.

Below: what music stars have to say about Metallica at Glastonbury

  • Johnny Marr: "You wouldn't think of Metallica being the underdog would you and suddenly they've become the underdog so I'm all for 'em now."

  • Alex Turner: "I'm not sure it adds up," he tells Time Out in a new interview. "I know we'd buzz off it, but fundamentally could you have Metallica in the hippy nucleus?"

  • Bombay Bicycle Club: "I personally don't think [Metallica are] a very good booking" he said. "I think the line-up is a bit disappointing generally. My ideal line-up was Prince, Fleetwood Mac and Kanye West. I wanted a left-field Jay Z option again. I'm sure it will be great though."

  • Frank Turner: "I would be absolutely fascinated to see what they play. It's an interesting question though; what songs does the laymen know that aren't on The Black Album?"

  • Kasabian: "I think they ran out of time for Prince. It's quite a bold move Metallica - it's a monster."

  • Nick Grimshaw: "You don't really need to know [their music]. When it's a band like Metallica and they've got to that stage of touring forever, there must be a reason why they're that big a rock band and headlining. Even if you don't know you're a fan, you'll go and watch and be like, 'Wow, I love this'."
