U2 frontman Bono has apologised for digitally inserting Songs Of Innoncence into 500 million Apple devices.

In an interview on the band's Facebook, the frontman was asked by an offended 'fan': “Can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically downloads to people’s playlists ever again? It’s really rude.”

Bono responded with “Oops … I’m sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea … might have gotten carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that thing. A drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion, and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years might not be heard. There’s a lot of noise out there. I guess, we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it.”

The band also have revealed a new video for 'The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone). Naturally it's being premiered on iTunes.

In this month's Q Magazine bassist Adam Clayton reveals that the band are nearing completion of their 14th studio album, set to be titled 'Songs of Experience', following the conventions of both William Blake and David Axelrod.

Asked whether the band would be tempted to repeat the feat of digitally inserting the album into iTunes accounts worldwide, the bassist isn't convinced. "Y'know what, depending on how long it takes to be completed, there may be a whole new delivery method invented by then... I think we just have to wait and see. There'll be a bit of water under the bridge before we get to that point. But yeah, I think it would be a bit predictable to do the same thing. And y'know, the law may have changed by then and we'll have to find some other way of doing it."

Recently Bono expressed his interest to play venues such as The O2 Arena in London when the band get around to touring the album, however no dates have been announced yet.

U2 are set to appear on 21 October on Jools Holland alongside Sam Smith, Interpol and Zola Jesus. They are also recording an exclusive set at Maida Vale studios 'Spending An Evening With U2' hosted by Jo Whiley the following day.
