The Libertines have revealed that they have signed a new record deal with Virgin EMI, leaving behind Rough Trade Records the label that released the band's two studio albums.
The band posted on Facebook this afternoon "...signing this new record deal with Virgin EMI Records, today on Ko Si Chang Island. It's going to happen. After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, and we couldn't be more excited. This signals a new era and a new beginning for The Libertines."
It marks the end of their relationship with Rough Trade who released their two studio albums as well as a Best Of and the first Babyshambles record.
This means that the much rumoured third album will finally see the light of day. In a statement Doherty said "I don’t know what to say, I’m so happy. It was a beautiful day."
Carl Barât added: "After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn't be more excited."
It marks a triumphant year for the band. The Libertines were recently crowned as Best Headliner for their British Summer Time Hyde Park performance at the UK Festival Awards, in a shortlist curated by Gigwise. The band accepted their award with a short video speech from Pete Doherty in Thailand - topless and playing a badminton racquet as he thanked fans from rehab.
The band are currently working on new material while Pete Doherty recoups in a Thai rehab. The Libertines are rumoured for a number of festival appearances next summer, including Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds.
Carl Barat however, is currently gearing up to release new album Let It Reign with The Jackals. Watch our video interview with him here.
