More about:

Jack White's Lazaretto is the best selling album on vinyl of 2014, as it's revealed that nearly eight million records were purchased over the past 12 months.

According to the Wall Street Journal, record sales are up 49%, even though vinyl still only constitutes 2% of the total music market.

White's second solo album shifted 75,700 copies, followed by Arctic Monkeys AM (40,600 copies), The Black Keys Turn Blue (28,300), Lana Del Rey's Born to Die (27,200) and Beck's Morning Phase (25,200) rounded out the top five sellers.

Although the White and Monkeys albums are safe bets, it's interesting to see that it is Lana's breakthrough record from 2012 that has made the charts (rather than the more maudlin Ultraviolence) and also that critical reviews don't appear to have an effect (the Black Keys record came in for a mauling in some quarters).

As the WSJ points out that because of the relative low numbers of vinyl records sold in comparison with digital music, the pressing plants aren't receiving the investment.

Not content with mastering the vinyl format, Jack White has unveiled a cardboard virtual reality app for Android phones promising a 360 degree chance to experience his live shows.  Available on Android phones, it promises "immersive 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D" and sound mixed in Dolby's Atmos surround sound. The two performances so far are White's performance of 'Freedom At 21' and 'Ball and Biscuit' at The Bleacher Theater at Fenway Park and 'Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground' at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
