Kasabian: 'We are ready for Wembley - it's stadium time'

Kasabian have sights on Wembley and Murrayfield, revealing that the next stage of the band is 'stadium time'.

The band, who have just wrapped up a UK arena tour that included five sold out nights at London's Brixton Academy, were talking to NME about where to go from here when guitarist Serge Pizzorno admitted that the band were 'ready' for the likes of Wembley Stadium - but he did have his reservations.

"In a stadium, half the people aren't really in the mix because they're sitting down," he said. "I suppose there's some weird Britpop hangover ingrained in my soul that strives to make outsider music and take it to Wembley; it would be great to say you've done it, and it would be a huge achievement, but that show in Leicester – 60,000 people in a field – felt perfect for us. Maybe we'd like to take something like that around the country."

Doing a complete 180 turn, he then continued: "I was talking shit earlier – we are ready for Wembley. In fact, that's the next step: Wembley and Murrayfield, and then beyond. It's stadium time. It has to be."

Pizzorno then went on to discuss how the band's priority has always been their live spectacle over record sales, in order to tend to their ever growing following.

"It's just always how it's been for us," he added. "I'm sure it's stranger for bands that have been big for a long time [to see album sales fall away]. As soon as you can get music for free, there's no going back.

"And anyway, as much as it's funny to read about golden Rolls-Royces and palm trees made of pound notes, I'm not really into all that. If we'd had it, it would have fucked us up."

Kasabian are expected to return to the road in the UK for string of festival dates in 2015, with the band currently rumoured for the likes of Reading and Leeds.
