Troubled AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, currently on trial for threatening to kill a father and daughter as well as and drug possession, has told local news that he wants to be back in the band.
“I’m going back to work with AC/DC and I don’t care who likes it or who doesn’t,” he told New Zealand’s One News (via The Guardian). “I want my job back and I want my reputation back.”
Rudd is facing charges of threatening both an unamed man and his daughter on 26 September, as well as possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. According to prosecutors, Rudd called a business associate and discussed "what he wanted done" to the man, before then calling the man in question and threatening both him and his daughter.
While Rudd acknowledged possessing a "small amount of marijuana", he told the police that he hadn't made the alleged phone calls, and did not threaten to kill anyone. Meanwhile, Rudd was arrested aain early this month after an alleged fight with his bodyguard. He was later released on bail without further charges.
When asked about Rudd's status in the band, AC/DC have not made a clear decision as yet. Speaking to the Guardian, Angus Young admitted they “had a few problems” and the "situation he’s in that took everyone by surprise."
Young went on to explain the difficult position they find themselves in. "We had a few issues before with him, even when we were recording it was hard even to get to him to do the recording," he said. "And then he was supposed to show up to do promos with us, to do video shoots and a few shoots and a few other things, and he never showed up for that either. So, at this stage, it’s a pretty tough call for us.”
Rudd's case is due to recommence on 10 February when a date for trial is likely to be set.
Rudd has also seen his former band have a huge success around the globe with Rock Or Bust. The band achieved top three in the UK and are widely tipped to be headlining Glastonbury next year.
