Ed Sheeran performed alongside John Mayer at last night's Grammys ceremony, but the big news story of the night - that Lady Gaga mistook him for a waiter - was actually tweeted from a fake account.
Publications from Glamour Magazine to The Dail Mail to Entertainment Weekly reported that the singer - who was nominated for two awards but didn't win any - tweeted: "I love @ladygaga. Spoke to her earlier and she mistook me for a waiter. Gotta love the #GRAMMYs. #INeedANewSuit? Aha."
It's now become clear, though, that the tweet was sent from a fake Ed Sheeran account whose username, @edsheersan, is not immediately distinguishable from Sheeran's if you're not incredibly eagle-eyed.
Clearly feeling remorseful, the account later tweeted, "The replies to that tweet make me feel bad they're hating on Gaga she didn't do nothin." Poor Gaga.
It was also an educational night for many Ed Sheeran fans, who discovered that his massively successful album, x, is actually pronounced Multiply.

The singer was later joined by John Mayer, Herbie Hancock and Questlove for his live performance of 'Thinking Out Loud'.
