Beck has responded to Kanye West's shock interruption on stage at the Grammy Awards, declaring "He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody".
Last night in LA, Beck was presented with Album Of The Year for Morning Phase, much to the shock of Kanye West who, like many in the audience, assumed Beyonce would walk away with the award. West then appeared on stage to jokily recreate his protest about Beyonce's snub in 2009.
However it appears that West wasn't satisfied with a walk-on part. Appearing on E! after the event West complained bitterly about the decision to award Morning Phase above Beyonce's LP. "I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more," he explained. "And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyonce."
Beck has now revealed his thoughts on the matter. "I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody," he told US Weekly. "How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?” Asked if Beyonce should have won the Best Album award, Beck responded: “Absolutely. I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyonce!”
Beck also addressed the question of 'artistry'. "You can't please everybody, man," he replied when queried about Kanye. "I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."
Beck has emerged out of this brilliantly. It just appears the entire world is sharing the same view as Jay Z when Kanye first stepped on that stage.
