Mumford & Sons have just dropped 'Believe', a brand new track taken from their forthcoming LP Wilder Mind. Check it out below.

With 'Believe', Mumford and co. have ditched the prevalent sound of banjo and swapped it for big drums and electric guitar, proving that they weren't lying when they said they'd be departing from their previous sound.

This song our first taste of the new album, which frontman Marcus Mumford has revealed was partly inspired by the likes of Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Mumford shared that while he did not listen to any artists in particular during the making the album, he did consider how Led Zeppelin’s albums had space in them, saying “...you listen to a Led Zeppelin album and suddenly you actually hear the space because it's more defined by less of the noise going on.”

“All our favorite bands, from Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac to Radiohead, all go about it in interesting ways,” he continued, “and especially with a very lyrical band like ours, you have to be even more intentional about space.”

He then went on to say that Radiohead are one of the band’s favorite musical acts and that they have “a lot of deep respect for that band”.

Also discussing the writing process, Mumford revealed that this collection of songs has more writers on it than their previous releases have, and that it was a more collaborative process this time around.

“We've always said that it's a competition between songs rather than writers, so it's like, whoever writes it, if it's a good song, it's in,” the frontman said. “And so the boys kept coming up with a bunch of amazing lyrics that I found really fun to sing, and that was quite a liberating experience too – really enjoying, relishing singing someone else's lyrics. We're all so close now that it feels like it's much easier to empathize with each other than it's ever been, and because we know each other so well, you don't have to ask the awkward questions about what a lyric means.”

The news of the band’s third album comes after the hiatus the band took back in 2013, which didn’t last very long before they decided to head back to the studio. Recorded at Air Studios in London and produced by James Ford, the tracks were written during sessions in London, Brooklyn and Texas, and were demo’d at the garage studio owned by The National’s Aaron Dessner.
