Mumford & Sons launched their new album by performing new songs from their upcoming album Wilder Mind with an intimate London gig at Oslo in Hackney last night (Monday 9 March, 2015). See the setlist below.
With the venue decorated with a blazing blue neon sign of the album's title outside, this year's Reading & Leeds headliners took to the stage at the tiny 350-capacity venue after the event was announced just the night before. Fans had their phones confiscated so as to fully enjoy the gig without filming or taking photos.
Earlier in the evening, their new single 'Believe' was debuted by Annie Mac on BBC Radio One - with the track receiving a huge response when it dropped as the second song in the set.
"Unless you were listening to radio this evening you won't know any of these songs, apart from maybe this next one, which is called 'Believe'," said frontman Marcus Mumford, reports NME.
At one point in the set, a fan asked what had happened to their trademark banjo sound, to which Mumford replied: "That's a good question. That's a fair question. We don't really know. We'll get back to you on that one."
Elsewhere, in the set, new numbers 'Ditmas' and 'Snake Eyes' were aired, and said to have an 'epic' feel - in keeping with the Coldplay-esque arena-ready tones of 'Believe'. Meanwhile, Wilder Mind tracks 'Monster' and 'Hot Gates' showcased the influence of The National - after the band worked with Aaron Dessner on the new LP.
But if you missed the gig, fear not - the band hinted their hopes to do more impromptu intimate gigs "in other places, probably".
