An online petition will donate all its proceeds to Aids charities if it achieves its main target – to get U2 frontman Bono to retire from public life.
Organisers say the petition, which has so far raised $390, wants to help stop Bono from “leading misguided counter-productive philanthropy efforts”.
It also calls the U2 frontman “self-righteous”.
“The grassroots leaders of the global fight against AIDS didn’t ask for Bono to be their frontman. Its time for Bono to step down,” they add.
The petition - on website The Point - states that no pledge will be collected until Bono retires from public life.
U2 are currently recording their new studio album alongside Brian Eno at their home studios Dublin.
