Sugababes have said it is “business as usual” after former member Mutya Buena won the rights to their name.
Buena, one of the group's founding stars who left in 2005, revealed details of her victory yesterday (August 24), but failed to highlight that she had only won limited rights.
The singer now owns Sugababes rights to "paper, cardboard and goods made from these materials, not included in other classes; namely stationery, paper gift wrap and paper gift wrapping ribbons".
In a statement, Sugababes said the decision had no impact on them.
They added: “On 21st April 2011, a decision was made by the Office For Harmonization In The Internal Market Trade (Trade Marks Department), wherein Sugababes successfully acquired the rights to the name 'Sugababes' in all categories pertaining to the band’s areas of activity in the music, sound recording and entertainment industry.”
The girl group's line-up now consists of Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen.
