24 June, 2012: For UK music lovers not up to their waist in mud at the Isle Of Wight or grinding their hips to Rihanna and Jay-Z at London's Hackney Weekend, this weekend also saw funk-punk legends Red Hot Chili Peppers perform two massive shows at Knebworth and Sunderland's Stadium of Light.
Their Sunderland show was the US band's first visit to the North East of the UK since their Newcastle show in 1990 - and one of only two shows on their current world tour. Supported by Reverend And The Makers, The Wombats and Futureheads, the band performed hits including 'Scar Tissue', 'Californication', 'By The Way' and 'Under The Bridge'.
The veteran rockers were at their stadium-filling best, with bassist Flea stealing the show with his bare-chested strumming, purple hair and brilliant facial expressions.
