Singer wept when meeting the King of Pop
R Kelly has revealed in his memoirs that he broke down in tears after meeting tMichael Jackson for the first time.
The R & B artist recalls meeting Jackson in 1995 when he wrote chart topper ‘You Are Not Alone’ and insists he was overwhelmed to be in the presence of pop royalty.
‘I broke down and cried. Michael had felt how I’d caught his spirit’. Kelly writes in his memoirs.
In the extract obtained by People.com R Kelly writes ‘He was wearing a black mask over his face. Only his eyes were showing. He looked in my eyes and gave me the hug of my life whispering ‘the world’s going to be singing this song’ Jackson went onto tell Kelly he loved the song. ‘I don’t want to change one thing. I want to sing it just the way you wrote it. You captured me beautifully.’
Kelly’s reaction had him ‘choked up’ to the compliment that Jackson had given him, referring to him as a ‘brother, a friend and a mentor’.
The extract is in R Kelly’s autobiography ‘The Diary Of Me’ and hits the shelves tomorrow (June 28).
Michael Jackson passed away 3 years ago following a cardiac arrest.
