Let's get this straight right away - this isn't a list of the best singers of all time, rather the most individual, recognisable and different voices in the world of music.

So, Whitney Houston has no place here but Antony Hegarty (below) does. He may not have the most accessible voice in the world but when he is singing you know it is him and him alone.
