George Michael has told critics of him performing new single 'White Light' at the London 2012 closing ceremony that they can 'f**k off' after backlash at his choice of songs for the performance.
Michael has come under fire from some people for promoting his new release on a night reserved for greatest hits. However, taking to Twitter this morning (Aug 14) Michael showed no sign of regretting his performance.
"Morning everyone! Had a GREAT time at the closing! I hope you are not bothered by the press reports of my scandalous 'promotion' !!!" he Tweeted.
Adding: "Please join me in telling them to f*ck off ! It was my one chance on tv to thank you all for your loyalty and prayers, and I took it. X And I don't regret it. Xxxx"
The singer's spokesperson had earlier issued a statement stating: "George wanted to perform his new single because it reflected everything he has been through in the last year."
"The song is a celebration of being alive because he was so close to death last year. It was his decision to perform a song from the past and song for the present."
The same spokesperson later added, in a statement to The Telegraph: "He wanted to perform it for fans... it seemed quite appropriate. He doesn't need to plug his new single - it was just nice for him to sing it.
