Carly Rae Jepsen has admitted that she may not have made music if it wasn't for Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen.
The singer has said she grew up listening to the rock royalty and always thought she'd be a folk singer. Jepsen told Metro: "I was really touched by the fact songs could evoke an emotion and I wanted to give that to other people. I was very inspired by Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen."
She continued: "Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest artists of all time but I became attracted to pop music because of how fun it was and how it can make people happy and want to sing and dance along."
"My love for pop grew slowly but surely. I'd go into the studio with every intention of writing a folk song but they started to turn into pop songs so I threw my hands in the air and stopped fighting it. It was around that time I wrote 'Call Me Maybe'."

'Call Me Maybe' was one of the biggest songs of 2012 and the longest running US number one in a year that has seen Jepsen catapulted into pop mainstream.
The Canadian added that she was "amazed" by the reaction to her music and said it was very pleasing to hear that peers such as Katy Perry are fans.
