CHVRCHES: Scottish electropop band CHVRCHES are destined for great things. Runners-up in the BBC Sound of 2013 poll, the band not only release synthy electropop tracks, but also remix songs by up-and-coming artists - such as their take on MS MR's 'Hurricane'. And let's not forget that there's not much cooler than their cover of the Game of Thrones theme.
Deap Vally: Quirky and unusual, the Deap Vally duo met at a needlework class when Julie Edwards taught Lindsey Troy how to crochet. The all-girl rock and roll stars are cool beyond belief - they party hard and rock harder, although it's unknown if they're still making time for a bit of sewing. And don't worry - they spelt their name wrong on purpose.
Findlay: Natalie Findlay is certainly making a name for herself (and let's not forget that she took a punch for Jake Bugg last year). Her music is reminiscent of The Kills but with much more snarl and depth, Findlay's music sounds like vicious, surly blues and she definitely won't hesitate to take what she wants. So cool.
Iggy Azalea: Australian hip-hop artist Iggy Azalea makes controversy into an art form - the music video for her song 'Pu$$y' quickly went viral. She's the first female rapper to be featured on XXL's Top 10 Freshman cover issue, toured with Rita Ora and is the first of House of Holland's eyewear campaign. All this, and she's still only 22.
Is Tropical: The London trio are signed to Kitsune, a French label who have also worked with Mark Ronson and Phoenix, among others. They're super mysterious, choosing to perform with veils over their faces, and make a point of their weird music videos - the clip for 'The Greeks' saw children indulging in graphic cartoon violence, whereas latest release 'Dancing Anymore' shows a teenage boy furiously masturbating in a plush mansion while fantasising about CGI girls - and boys.
Swim Deep: Indie-pop band Swim Deep were in fellow Brummie band Peace's shadow at first - but no more. The band have been getting consistently better and better, and manage to keep a new sound on each release. From scuzzy, fuzzy hooks to soaring shoegaze, they not only do it all - but Swim Deep do it with style.
The Strypes: Prepare to feel inadequate, because the Irish band were formed in 2011 - and yet all of the members are currently aged between 14 and 16. No, really. Wearing mod suits and with famous fans such as Noel Gallagher, Miles Kane, Jeff Beck and Paul Weller, The Strypes might look like children but they play like professionals.
Childhood: Okay, so Childhood look adorable rather than super cool at first, but their music soon puts them firmly on the cool side of things. Trippy, vibrant guitar songs infused with youth and energy, Childhood still manage to exude a 'too cool to care' vibe to go with their laidback attitude. Listen to them a few times and life soon seems a breeze.
Merchandise: The Tampa rock band have been around since 2008, but you've probably never heard of them before as they chose to fly under the radar and turn down the mainstream accolades they were offered - for example, they wouldn't speak to Pitchfork at all until last year. Not to mention, their band name is ironic, because they're against the corporate route. Get it?
Phosphorescent: Intimate with just the right amount of country, Matthew Houck is just a guy with a guitar making music. Languid and effective in its simplicity, there's something mystical and almost other-worldly at times about latest album Muchacho. Cool comes easy to Houck.
