Kanye West has revealed the influences that impacted on his upcoming album Yeezus - among them are house music and a lamp.
In a rare recent interview with the New York Times, West discussed the inspiration behind his hotly-anticipated new LP and also talked about his thoughts around the infamous Taylor Swift interruption.
"It’s like trap and drill and house," said West, about the sound of Yeezus. "I knew that I wanted to have a deep Chicago influence on this album, and I would listen to like, old Chicago house. I think that even 'Black Skinhead' could border on house, 'On Sight' sounds like acid house, and then 'Am a God' obviously sounds, like, super house."
As well as house music, West said his also inspired by architecture and furniture design: "You know, this one Corbusier lamp was like, my greatest inspiration.
"I lived in Paris in this loft space and recorded in my living room, and it just had the worst acoustics possible, but also the songs had to be super simple, because if you turned up some complicated sound and a track with too much bass, it’s not going to work in that space.
He added: "This is earlier this year. I would go to museums and just like, the Louvre would have a furniture exhibit, and I visited it like, five times, even privately. ... Like I say, I’m a minimalist in a rapper’s body."

When asked about the time he infamously interrupted Taylor Swift during an awards ceremony, West responded: "It’s only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It’s only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness. Beauty, truth, awesomeness. That’s all it is.
"I don’t have one regret."
Yeezus will be released on 18 June, 2013.
