Three-piece are first ever to film atop skyscraper

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, being a band who are always trying to reach new heights, have become the first band to film a music video on top of the Empire State Building.
According to the New York Times the band shot a clip for their next single ‘Despair’ back in April.
Chief operator at the skyscaper Anthony E. Malkin said: “The way I look at it is, why hasn’t this been done before? Credit to them for having the gumption to ask.”
But even though the group are internationally successful musicians who often indulge in the less than usual endeavors , frontwoman Karen O wasn’t about to brush the experience off as everyday.
“It’s definitely not just another cool day in the life of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs,” she said.
“It was definitely an iconic moment. It’s hard to do something like that and not feel like it’s symbolic - it’s like the American dream for us, singing your song on top of the Empire State Building, feeling like: man, where were we 10 years ago, when we were sitting around in some punk rock dive bar, think about what to name our band, and New York City, and now here we are at the top. It really felt dreamlike.”
The full video for ‘Despair will be premiered tomorrow (June 24) but you can watch a teaser clip here.
