Iggy Pop: The Stooges frontman was legendary for his wild and dangerous antics both on and off stage. He would cut himself up with broken bottles, vomit in front of audiences and once, after being continuously heckled, he even shouted abuse at the crowd during a Stooges gig. Oh, and he never wears a shirt. Ever.
Madonna: You don't have a long and successful career like Madonna's if you're afraid of a little publicity stunt every now and then. One of the most notorious was her three-way MTV VMA Awards kiss on stage with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Her provocative, ever-changing image and the adoption of her children have also been highly publicised.
Marilyn Manson: Manson is famed, in part, simply for looking rather terrifying. However his music and on stage antics have also ignited furious controversy and a healthy dose of vitriol - mainly from religious groups. He also had a high profile, and somewhat confusing, marriage to burlesque beauty Dita Von Teese.
Nicki Minaj: Almost rivalling Gaga in the mad outfits stakes, Nicki Minaj has had her fair share of public attention, mainly because she insists on looking like she's been dressed by a 3 year-old high on Skittles. Other stunts include bringing a fake 'pope' as her date to the 2012 Grammys, her feud with Lil' Kim (which even infiltrated her music), and her 'marriage' to Drake.
Kanye West: The rapper with a god complex has a brand of sigh-worthy, news-making capers that is all his own. Yeezy has crashed acceptance speeches, accused President George Bush of racism, and dressed up as the actual Jesus - crown of thorns included.
Elton John: Elton John is known for being one of the music industry's biggest male divas. His flamboyant sense of style (no one else can dress up as both a bee and Minnie Mouse and get away with it) and chart success have made him a music icon. He became embroiled in a highly publicised feud with Madonna, famously calling her a "fairground stripper."
Lady Gaga: What can you say about Gaga? Arguably the most bonkers superstar on the planet, she's done it all: the meat dress, shunning cars in favour of eggs as a mode of transport, naked yoga, male alter egos; the list is endless. Never a day goes by without a media-fuelled injection of crazy from the Haus of Gaga.
Black Sabbath: With Ozzy Osbourne at the helm, stories concerning Black Sabbath were always going to get interesting. Their music themes of horror and the occult won them an army of fans and legions of critics, and obviously Ozzy's famous bat (and dove)-eating incident has become legendary the world over. He also took a whizz on the Texas Alamo - resulting in an angry police officer telling him, "Son, when you p**s on The Alamo, you p**s on the state of Texas." Brilliant.
Miley Cyrus: Miley Cyrus has boomeranged so far away from her pre-teen wholesome image that it's all become a bit awkward. She's grabbed headlines by baring her flesh and twerking what her mama gave her at every available opportunity, in what appears to be a relentless mission to prove to the world she's no longer Billy Ray's little girl.
Pete Doherty: The troubled frontman for the Libertines and then Babyshambles has garnered possibly miles of column inches over the years. His high-profile relationship with supermodel Kate Moss was relentlessly documented, as was his relationship with drugs. He is famous for squirting blood out of a syringe backstage at a gig in Berlin, and singing the banned first verse of the German national anthem, historically used by the Nazis.
Rihanna: The Barbadian superstar's constant stream of nudie selfies on Instagram, over-publicised sexual confidence, personal relationships and provocative musical themes have all kept her in the papers over the course of her career. Her risque, tough girl attitude is the subject of countless online conversations, but no one can argue with her back catalogue of hits.
Wiley: It seems Wiley is always unhappy with something or someone. He makes headlines by airing his grievances vehemently and publicly. He pulled out of Glasto this year, stating they weren't paying him enough, leaked his own album, and has had very public beef with Jay Sean and Chipmunk.
Justin Bieber: The teen star's predilection for documenting his life on Twitter and Instagram has ensured his name remains in the papers and on everyone's lips. Endless streams of selfies, naked serenades to his grandma and paparazzi punch ups are just some of the delights his 'Beliebers' are treated to.
KISS: The theatrical rockers were pioneers of so-called 'shock rock', grabbing headlines throughout their lengthy careers. Frontman Gene Simmons would regularly spit blood and breathe fire on stage. Simmons had also famously proclaimed himself as the 'devil incarnate', and the band even had a comic book printed with red ink that had been mixed with their own blood.
David Bowie: The icon was legendary for his flamboyant persona, dress sense and alter ego to end all alter egos; 'Ziggy Stardust'. The media hung, and still do, onto every move he made. His latest stunt has been the outwardly anti-religious video release for his single 'The Next Day', which had Christians all over the country in uproar.
Jessie J: Jessie is not one to shy away from the limelight. She famously shaved her head for this year's Comic Relief, and has been Instagramming and tweeting pictures of herself with her peroxide Sinead O'Connor-type 'do ever since. In fact, her Instagram account is one more bikini-selfie away from just being one long public homage to herself.
Liam Gallagher: The Beady Eye frontman is famed for his argumentative spirit and big mouth. He's grabbed the media by the throat by getting embroiled in feuds with the likes of Robbie "fat f*cking idiot" Williams, Damon Albarn and even his own brother, Noel "full of sh*t" Gallagher. He's said some of the most outrageous things ever - but we sort of love him for it.
Katy Perry: With a debut single like 'I Kissed A Girl', which Perry later admitted was part-inspired by Scarlett Johansson, it was clear from the offset that she was by no means a wallflower. Case in point being the massive, ostentatiously gold lorry she hired to roam the streets and promote her new album, Prism. Her relationships with both Russell Brand and John Mayer have also kept her at the forefront of showbiz news, however much we may wish otherwise.
