New Yorkers Interpol have confirmed that work is well underway on new material, after taking to Twitter to talk about their progress.
The band have been on a break following the release of their self-titled fourth album from 2010, in which time the band reissued their seminal debut, Turn On The Bright Lights, and frontman Paul Banks released his second solo album.
Many fans feared for the band's future following the departure of bassist Carlos Dengler, who left the group after work on their last album was complete.
But now, guitarist Daniel Kessler has reassured fans on Twitter that new material is progressing well:
And wouldn't ya know it...we started working on another new tune yesterday. August be a breeding ground.-DK

Earlier this year, it emerged that frontman Paul Banks is set to star in a feature-length movie to be filmed next year. Banks has landed the lead role in Mine to Kill , which was co-written by fellow New Yorkers Jeff Kinkle and James Kendi and was a finalist in the 2011 Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab.
The synopsis read: “Geoffrey Kendle is a creative director at a hip advertising agency in Manhattan. While his life is extraordinarily pleasant, a palpable sense of ennui persists. Knowing he will never die of starvation, Geoffrey is preoccupied he will one day die of boredom.
“Then while driving through a desolate patch of Upstate New York very late on a warm August night, he happens upon a woman in distress on the side of the road. The encounter sets in motion a series of events that gives him the impetus to leave his perfect life.”
Kendi is currently seeking funding the full-length film which he hopes shoot next year.
