London Grammar performed an intimate in-store gig at Rough Trade East in Shoreditch last night, following the release of their debut album If You Wait on Monday.
The London trio treated fans to a 25 minute-long set, which opened with 'Hey Now' and featured a version of 'Interlude' with an extended intro, something they'd worked on for the summer festival circuit. There were subtle twists on the vocals in 'Wasting My Young Years', and singer Hannah Reid requested that the audience sing along when the band performed 'Strong' as she surprisingly claimed that her voice wasn't at its best after recently having tonsillitis - although we'd never have noticed hadn't she mentioned it, and would take her "I've got a cold" voice over our normal singing ones any day.
In good spirits, London Grammar thanked their fans for coming along, noting that it was a special "cosy" gig for them, and Hannah Reid even joked about the slight kerfuffle that occurred with BBC Radio 1 earlier in the day. After commenting that it was particularly hot on stage, she added that maybe she should have worn a swimsuit instead (inciting a few enthusiastic noises form male members of the audience), before quickly withdrawing the remark and saying maybe not, considering what had happened with Radio 1.
