Racist slurs! Death threats! It's all here

Last night, Miley Cyrus' loyal fanbase launched an attack on New Zealand singer Lorde, calling her a 'crusty old hag' and telling her to 'kill herself' after the 'Royals' singer took the number one spot on the US iTunes charts.

However, Cyrus isn't the only singer with a terrifyingly loyal fanbase. Here, we take a look at some of the lengths fans of the likes of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, One Direction and more go to in an attempt to to protect their idols.

Take not Little Monsters, Beliebers and Directioners - you really need to learn to control your temper.

  • Beliebers VS Selena Gomez, 2011 - When the tween idols started dating, not everybody was happy. None more so than Justin Bieber's rabid pre-teen fanbase, who took to Twitter in their droves to show Gomez what's what. "Stay away from Justin paedophile. I'm gonna kill ya in the night underneath your smelly bed," one fan wrote. Weird.

  • 1D fans VS Taylor Swift, 2012 - Yet again, when THESE tween idols started 'dating' (absolutely, definitely not a publicity stunt, okay cynicists?) a million teenage girls' hearts broke blah blah. Instead of crying into their pillows though, Styles' admirers sent chillingly direct threats such as "If u dating my harry, i kill u". It must have worked, because the pair broke up a few weeks later.

  • Taylor Swift's fans VS Tina Fey, March 2013 - Swift fans went on the hunt for comedian Tina Fey after she made a minor light-hearted jibe about Swift's much publicised love life whilst hosting the 2013 Golden Globes. "you are mean and a liar, pathetic and alone in life" was the grave assessment of one 'Swiftie' (ugh).

  • Katycats VS Mara Wilson, August 2013 - The 'Roar' singer's loyal fans went for the former child star Wilson (Matilda? Mrs Doubtfire?) turned sarcastic writer after she aired her opinions on Perry on Twitter. "I'd be OK with Katy Perry's relentless self-promotion if she'd stop singing about the joys of getting blackout drunk and having unsafe sex," Mara said. Bad idea. "Kill yourself, ugly bitch," was the kindly suggestion one Perry fan offered in response.

  • One Direction fans VS Gabriel Agbonlahor, September 2013 - Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor received death threats from the most terrifying subculture on the planet, One Direction fans, after ill-advisedly tackling singer Louis Tomlinson in a charity football match. Twitter user @zaynsoreos_ reasonably told Agbonhalor "I will cut your balls off".

  • Little Monsters VS Azealia Banks, September 2013 - There was nothing amusing about the shocking abuse aimed at the '212' rapper after she slammed Gaga on Twitter, asking her followers "On a scale of 1-10, how out of ideas is Lady Gaga?". Little Monsters were quick to respond, with the least insulting retort out of the many racist comments being "kill your self! Oh sorry you already dead! Bye bitch". A little too far?

  • Miley Cyrus' fans VS Lorde, September 2013 - When super-talented 16-year-old New Zealand singer Lorde took the number one spot from Miley, Cyrus' fans told the 'Royals' singer "I'll stab your rotting corpse". Cyrus then tweeted Lorde, telling her her music is "awesome".

  • Directioners VS GQ, July 2013 - With 1D's youthful, handsome faces complete with moody stareS gracing covers of GQ nationwide, you'd be forgiven for thinking their fans would be over the moon. But no. Loyal Directioners took issue with the strapline the men's magazine chose to run under the Harry Styles edition: 'He's up all night to get lucky'. "YOURE MAKING HIM SOUND LIKE A WHORE. HES NOT A FUCKING WHORE YOU STUPID CUNTS" said one fan, and "DO YOU REALIZE HOW MANY PEOPLE WANT TO CASTRATE THE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THIS SHITTY MAGAZINE?" were the kind of comments sitting in GQ's Twitter mentions the next day. Maybe Harry just really likes Daft Punk, guys.
