2011- Frankie Cocozza: When he wasn't off in dreadful London nightclubs during his time on X Factor, Cocozza was known for ruining classics such as Primal Scream's 'Rocks' on Saturday night TV and showing everyone the dreadful tattoos on his arse. His solo single, 'She's Got A Motorcycle' was an absolute howler and sank without a trace. He went on to star in Celebrity Big Brother, placing second in 2012 after being voted slightly less popular than Denise Welch from Loose Women.
2012 - James Arthur: The boy could sing, and had released music independently before entering the X Factor, but when you've got that lady from the Pussycat Dolls fawning over you on national television, you're credibility is going to take a tumble. James Arthur and his exceptional collection of tattoos won X Factor in 2012, and was later reported to have been involved in a number of grotty sex acts by tabloid newspapers. His new single, 'You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You' is a solid 4/10 release.
2010 - Katie Waissel: Now, apparently Katie Waissel was the victim of some rather harsh online bullying during and after her time on X Factor so we don't want to put the boot in - but CHRIST, she was unbearable on the show. Oozing self-confidence to the extent she showed no sense of irony when filmed walking through a corn field with a parasol during her time on the show, Waissel failed to win over the audience, despite judges support. She later got tattoos a bit like Amy Winehouse - but still couldn't score a hit single.
2009 - Jamie Archer: Jamie 'Afro' (no idea how that nickname came about) liked rock and roll. A LOT. He proved this by singing 'Sex On Fire' at his audition for the show. Despite Louis Walsh taking a dislike to the 'Lenny Kravitz impersonator', Archer survived six weeks on the show and later released solo music. He postponed a tour in 2011 - and fans are still waiting to hear about those rescheduled dates...
2012 - Lucy Spraggan: The last thing the world needed was an acoustic Kate Nash, but that's what we got when Spraggan appeared on the 2012 series of X Factor. Performing her own tracks on the show about old people eating toast in bed and then having a bonk (or something along those lines...), Spraggan was taken ill during the show and eventually pulled out of the competition. Possibly because she realised the damage she was doing to her future career as a busker. We jest. She's got a solo album out and a record deal, so it's all OK now right? Right.
2005 - Journey South: One of the first X Factor acts to stagger onto the stage brandishing an acoustic guitar, Journey South stared lovingly into each others eyes as they knocked out songs by The Beatles, U2, Elton John and The Eagles. Worryingly, they were brothers.
2010 - Matt Cardle: The former plumber committed the cardinal X Factor sin after winning the show - turning around and slagging it off. He was voted better than Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd AND One Direction in 2010, but got angry when they all released their music before he was allowed, and became much more famous and successful. Cardle was also a fan of the acoustic guitar, but put that aside to snog Spice Girl Melanie C in his recent 'Loving You' video.
2006 - Ben Mills: If there was any question about Mills' sincerity and musical talents, then just take a look at that hair. True rock and roll hair, right there. Mills was often seen on the show in velvet jackets playing grand pianos. None of this dance routine nonsense for him, no sir. This was proper music right there. He did score a No.3 with his debut album Picture Of You however, so there were a lot of serious fans ready for his serious music (in 2007).
2006 - The MacDonald Brothers: Sadly losing out to Leona Lewis (and it was so close...), The MacDonald Brothers were another early adopter of the acoustic guitar on X Factor, but while they were probably aiming to be a bit like Biffy Clyro - it was instead 100 per cent The Proclaimers. They miraculously released four albums after they were booted off the show.
