Radio One listeners have named The 1975's single 'Chocolate' as the best song played on the radio station in the past five years.
The Manchester band, who scored a No.1 album with their debut release this autumn, from a collection of 100 songs, 20 from each of the past five years. Listeners voted, and named The 1975 top, ahead of 'Pompeii' by Bastille and Fall Out Boy's 2013 comeback track, 'My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)'. "It's great that a load of our favourite new British bands like Bastille and The 1975 are so high up on the list and it's really exciting how we have cleared the schedule and made way for the music for an entire day," said DJ Greg James. "It's good to indulge in talking to the audience online too – as long as I get the microphone back on Monday."
"Radio 1 has played a lot of amazing music over the last five years and we wanted to climax our Even More Music Month with a rundown of our audience's most loved songs," added George Ergatoudis, Radio 1's head of music. "The voting has been going on all month and artists have been rallying their fan bases - it has been fascinating seeing the votes come in."
