Queen's guitarist Brian May has dismissed rumours that the band parted ways with Sacha Baron Cohen due to arguments about an upcoming movie about Freddie Mercury.
The movie biopic that is meant to portray the life of Freddie Mercury and his historical career with rock band Queen, has been put on pause after Cohen decided to leave the project during the summer due to 'creative differences'.
However in a new interview with Classic Rock magazine, May has stated that the reports are "sensationalist" but that he and drummer Roger Taylor did feel that the actor's high profile could prove "distracting".
He told the magazine that it was difficult to talk about their time working with Sacha Baron Cohen, adding: "He had so much enthusiasm for the project and it really helped us kick it into the start position. But in the end we felt that his presence in the movie would be very distracting."
Ben Whishaw is rumoured to be the band's favourite for taking on the role of Freddie Mercury
Brian May also stated that there couldn't be any distractions in the movie, and that whoever finally takes on the role of Freddie Mercury has to be really believable, which they didn't think could happen with Sacha Baron Cohen.
Roger Taylor also spoke to BBC's The One Show recently and responded with "well, we hope so" when questioned if Skyfall actor, Ben Whishaw was to be the new Freddie Mercury.
