The night is finally almost upon us, where we discover which album will be adorning the coffee tables of houses round the country as the winner of the Mercury Music Prize 2013 - but who would benefit the most from the acclaim and commercial success it can bring?
Plenty of artists, such as The xx, Franz Ferinand and Arctic Monkeys, have seen the award as a springboard to further accolades. For some, such as PJ Harvey or Primal Scream, it was recognition of a job well done rather than something that raised their alreay significant public profiles. However, not everyone has had such a happy time after winning the sought-after prize.
