Lorde has written a candid and contemplative post on her Tumblr in celebration of her 17th birthday, speaking of how much her life has changed since her rise to fame and thanking her fans.
The New Zealand star, who turned 17 yesterday (6 November 2013), revealed she was writing from New York, and wrote about how she misses her family "terribly" but how she has "a kind of family, here, in New York - our tight little bunch playing shows and being overwhelmed constantly".

Speaking of her sudden and unrelenting rise to fame, she wrote: "This time last year I was making a Soundcloud, and a Twitter, and a Tumblr, all in the name Lorde. I had no clue about the music. I hope it'd be alright."
She also touched on how she had, the night before, performed to her musical heroes - "people whose names I worship, breathe like fine gold smoke" - and thanking fans for the support, saying: "I realise over and over everyday just how lucky I am to be here. And that's down to all of you, as well - regular people in dumb towns who make me feel so loved and strong, and whose hunger I can't wait to satisfy with more music."
The 'Royals' singer, who released debut album Pure Heroine to critical acclaim in September, signed off by hinting at what's to come in the future, revealing: "I'm already thinking about the next project, about reinvention."
