Arctic Monkeys' critically acclaimed 'AM' album was nearly named 'The New Black' after a guitar amp, Alex Turner has revealed.
The album has seen the Sheffield rockers reach new heights in their career, and AM has been topping end of year polls in recent weeks. However, Turner has revealed that the album was almost called something entirely different.
"I got this old Rickenbacker thing that we recorded a lot through" Turner said in an NME interview, "There's no knobs, just two holes. And this little black amp that became known as The New Black. Crossed me mind to call the album that."
The album, which was released in September and is the band's fifth, was instead simply named 'AM.' Turner has admitted to taking inspiration (Well, "we stole it" was what he actually said) from Velvet Underground's 'VU' album.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 in June, Turner explained "This record is exactly where we should be right now. So it felt right to just initial it."
'AM' was nominated for the 2013 Mercury Prize, and subsequently reached number 1 in the UK.
