Do singles really matter any more?

There was a time when an album could be measured on the hit singles it spawned. The best albums contained hit after hit, but in 2013? Well, things are a little different.
Much has been made in recent years of the 'death of the album' - but we disagree, with some of the biggest releases of 2013 achieving huge success - without selling any notable amount of singles. Indeed, some of the most talked about and critically acclaimed releases of the year, from the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, Chvrches and many more have succeeded without a major hit single, even if they did pick up a huge amount of radio play.
