We're in the most depressing month of the year. The weather is cold, everyone's broke, and the festive season is 100% over.

Fear not, however, as we have 26 reasons as to why 2014 is going to be awesome. From Arctic Monkeys' epic Finsbury Park shows, all the way through to Say Lou Lou dominating the pop world (if there's any justice) here's an alphabetical rundown of all the most important events happening in music this year...

  • A - Arctic Monkeys' huge Finsbury Park gigs: Fifth album AM cemented their status as one of the biggest bands in the world, and their two massive shows in May at Finsbury Park will be an awesome victory lap.

  • B - Banks' debut album: The LA singer's EP, London, was one of the highlights of 2013 - an achingly cool and confident offering which we still have on repeat. We're dying to hear what her full length will sound like.

  • C - Crosses' debut album: The musical side project of Deftones' vocalist Chino Moreno, Far's Shaun Lopez and Chuck Doom, Crosses' eponymous debut album will be out in February. If electro/metal hybrid track 'Bitches Brew' is anything to go by, it's going to be deliciously dark.

  • D - Daft Punk's Grammy and performance... and a world tour?: Just as everyone had abandoned hope, the legendary French electronic pioneers confirmed they'll be performing at January's Grammy Awards alongside recent collaborators Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams - as well as soul icon Stevie Wonder. SURELY this means a world tour is to follow? Fingers crossed.

  • E - Elbow's new album: The Manchester band have become one of the finest acts the UK has to offer, so their sixth album is one of 2014's most-anticipated releases. Carry Her, Carry Me will be out in March, and lyrically is inspired by frontman Guy Garvey's visit to New York.

  • F - Foo Fighters return and tour: It's been nearly three years since the release of Dave Grohl and co's last offering, Wasting Light, so needless to say fans are more than ready for some new material from the rockers. Grohl has already spilled some intriguing details about their eighth record, saying 2014 will be a "big year" for the band. We'll take that to mean a massive tour as well then.

  • G - Glastonbury (obviously): It's the biggest and best festival in the world, and the lineup is never a let down. We know Arcade Fire are headlining one night, and Lily Allen's on the bill somewhere - but the rest is, so far, a mystery.

  • H - Hideout Festival: A lineup consisting of the finest electronic acts out there, in the sun. In Croatia. With pool parties. What could be better?

  • I - Interpol's fifth album: It's been four long years since the US indie rocker's last album, but Paul Banks and co finally confirmed they had finished recording their forthcoming offering via Twitter. Mixing is said to commence in January, so we'll be sure to see it before the year is out.

  • J - Jessie Ware's second album: The London singer's debut, Devotion, was an effortlessly cool and credible compilation of excellent pop tracks with an electronic tinge. Ware has hinted her second offering could be out this year, and we're intrigued to see how her sound has developed.

  • K - Katy B becomes the next big UK female star: Debut album On a Mission was a fine slice of danceable R&B-pop-electro, and the Danger EP showed there was darker, hidden depths to to the singer-songwriter. Forthcoming album Little Red will be released in February, and the massive single 'Crying for No Reason' should hopefully secure Little Red's success - she deserves it.

  • L - Latitude: The Suffolk festival has become one of the UK's most unique and loved festivals and one of the most anticipated events on the music calendar thanks to an always varied lineup. Two Door Cinema Club have been announced as 2014's first headliner, and the likes of Haim, Anna Calvi and Royksopp Robyn are also set to play.

  • M - Muse's 20th anniversary celebrations... whatever they may be: Yep, it's been two decades since Matt Bellamy and co formed in Devon. Here's hoping they decide to celebrate it by announcing a few massive UK shows.

  • N - Neil Young AND The National at British Summertime: The legendary singer-songwriter and critically acclaimed US rockers will be heading to our shores in July for the Hyde Park festival. Lucky us.

  • O - 'Original Sugababes' MKS' debut album: OK, so their comeback hasn't exactly set the world on fire but Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan's harmonies still sound as spine-chillingly wonderful as ever on single 'Flatline', and their amazing take on Kendrick Lamar's 'Swimming Pools'. The likes of Dev Hynes, William Orbit and MNEK are said to be on board for the record, which is all we need to convince us it's going to be a pop masterpiece.

  • P - Pharrell, Pharrell, Pharrell: Hardcore fans of the super-producer and musician will know Pharrell Williams never really went away, but it's true 2013 saw somewhat of a career resurgence for Williams when he produced the two biggest hits of the year (you'll know what they are by now). Now, Williams is set to release a solo album in 2014, and we reckon it will be incredible.

  • Q - Queen release new music with Adam Lambert: The former American Idol contestant has played a few shows with the legendary band, and it seems they deem him as a worthy replacement for Freddie Mercury as drummer Roger Taylor recently confirmed they'll be working with him in 2014.

  • R - Reading and Leeds: Guitar music's popularity may be struggling in the mainstream, but Reading and Leeds have managed to stay relevant by booking a seriously excellent roster of acts for its dance stage in recent years. 2014 will also see Blink 182 return to the stage, which is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Disclosure, Jake Bugg and Metronomy are also set to appear.

  • S - Say Lou Lou: From the beautifully epic 'Better in the Dark' to the haunting 'Julian', Say Lou Lou are the pop act we all deserve and need for 2014. We hope they get massive.

  • T - Twilight Sad play their debut album in full on tour: The Scottish indie rockers will be playing their critically acclaimed 2007 debut, Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters in full in April - and it's sure to be magical.

  • U - Unknown Festival: Croatia isn't just known for its stunning beaches, beautiful scenery and amazing weather, it's now gaining a reputation for hosting some of the best festivals around - Unknown being one of them. From the people behind The Warehouse Project, Field Day and Hideout festival, it debuted last year with an impressive lineup including the likes of Disclosure, Django Django and Four Tet, and we're sure they'll top that in 2014.

  • V - St Vincent's new album: Do us a favour and ignore the 'St' for this one, please - thanks. Anyway, St Vincent is one of the most interesting, brightest indie pop stars out there, and she deserves to be a LOT bigger than she is. Hopefully her forthcoming self-titled album, her fourth, will gain her the exposure she deserves. If stunning lead single 'Birth in Reverse' is anything to go by, it's going to be a corker.

  • W - Wild Beast's new album: The critically acclaimed indie rockers haven't released an album in three years, and their upcoming fourth record sounds like it's going to mark a departure in their sound. "When I was 17 I thought I was Nick Drake. Now I'm 28, I think I'm J Dilla," co-frontman Tom Fleming told the NME. Yep, that's quite a change.

  • X - Jamie XX releasing an album?: The xx member and producer (henceforth known as XX, Jamie for the purposes of this countdown) is said to be releasing his debut album in 2014. Not many details are known, but one thing's for certain - he's sure to get some cracking collaborators on board.

  • Y - Young Turks establish themselves as one of the best labels in the UK: The independent label boasts the likes of Sampha, FKA twigs, SBTRKT, The xx, John Talabot, and Illum Sphere under their wing. We could go on - but we reckon they will own 2014.

  • Z - Azealia Banks finally releases her debut album: Yes, that's A-ZEE-lia Banks. Broke With Expensive Taste has been pushed back more times than we've had hot dinners but Banks has now confirmed it will finally see the light of day in March. Will it live up to expectations? Does anyone care anymore? We shall see...
