BBC 6 Music Festival: Taking us all completely by surprise was the new flagship fest from 6 Music at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse. With performances from The National, Haim, Damon Albarn, Metronomy, Franz Ferdinand, Midlake, Jagwar Ma, Jimi Goodwin, Bombay Bicycle Club, Lykke Li, Wild Beasts, James Blake, Nick Mulvey and many more, this truly reflects the credible and ecclectic nature of the station itself. It was amazing, and we can't wait until next year.
Radstock: After bringing headbanging joy to lovers of emo, post-hardcore and all things loud last year, Radstock returns to Liverpool and Newcastle for a second time this March with Funeral For A Friend, Kids In Glass Houses, Yashin, Feed The Rhino, Hacktivist and many more all on board. Get messy without getting muddy.
Handmade Festival: Leicester's Handmade Festival may have only started in 2013, but it already has a sterling reputation for boasting one hell of a line-up. Last year's included Rolo Tomassi, Nine Black Alps, Dutch Uncles and Twilight Sad, with 2014's bill including iLiKETRAiNS, Three Trapped Tigers and The Physics House Band with many more to be announced. Leicester's many venues better prepare for one hell of a noise.
Manchester International Festival: So much awesome in one place - and that's just the arts and culture side (Kenneth Branagh playing Macbeth FTW). But when it comes to music, MIF can't be beat. Whether it's Bjork's Biophillia residency, James Murphy teaming up with 2ManyDJs for Despacio or The xx playing a series of mind-blowing and intimate gigs, this really is one of the most awe-inspiring inner city festivals in the WORLD.
Swn Festival: In the heart of Cardiff you'll find Swn - the one that keeps the festival spirit alive well into Autumn with this brilliant October showcase of new music. With Everything Everything, Ghostpoet, Temples, Nick Mulvey, Bo Ningen and Sky Larkin all on last year's eclectic line-up, there's a lot of anticipation around their 2014 return.
Dot To Dot: It won Best Metropolitan Festival at the 2013 UK Festival Awards, so of course we have to feature Dot To Dot. Across many, many venues, Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester - the guys at D2D do it all: great venues, hundreds of brilliant new and old bands, one day and one mission: join the dots. On the line-up this year are the likes of Peace, Drenge, Wolf Alice, Courtney Barnett and even McCauley Culkin's Pizza Underground.
Tramlines: Anyone who ever thought that you couldn't create a festival vibe in an urban area has never visited Sheffield when Yorkshire's Steel City is swamped by music-loving party-animals for a city-wide explosion of new music. Head up there this year to catch Katy B, The Cribs, Ms Dynamite, The Wedding Present, Funeral For A Friend, Simian Mobile Disco and the very, very best of new talent.
Victorious: This marvellous and aptly-titled event down at Portsmouth's historic dockyard dazzled fans last year, and is sure to do so again with a feel-good eclectic line-up that features Seasick Steve, 2ManyDJs, Dizzee Rascal, Razorlight, Sub Focus, Tom Odell, Swim Deep, British Sea Power, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and many more.
The Great Escape: One of festival season's earliest events is also one of its best. Fancy a sunny weekend in Brighton this May with the best fresh sounds from Kelis, Charli XCX, Pawws, Arthur Beatrice, Chloe Howl, Jungle, Royal Blood, Shy Nature, Say Lou Lou, Traams and way, way more? Of course you do.
Liverpool Sound City: The city that gave us The Beatles continues to be a shining beacon of brilliant new music. Every May, they provide a focus for the latest in music, arts and culture - this year featuring performances from Kodaline, Fuck Buttons, Jungle, Clean Bandit, Darlia, Wolf Alice and the brilliant THUMPERS (pictured)
Live At Leeds: If you want the best new music without needing to put your wellies on, then the heart of Yorkshire every May is a safe bet. This weekend, you can catch the likes of Albert Hammond Jr, Years & Years, Yuck, Pulled Apart By Horses, Say Lou Lou, Dum Dum Girls, Blood Red Shoes, Courtney Barnett, Clean Bandit, Woman's Hour, Chloe Howl, Ella Eyre and so SO many more.
No Tomorrow: This brand new all-dayer at Nottingham's Wollaton Park has a brilliant line-up for its first year, featuring London Grammar, Sam Smith, Clean Bandit, Duke Dumont and many more this June.
