The Prodigy: The appeal of these legendary geezers is their ability to appeal to multiple generations and genres by creating a hybrid between rave and metal. Also who hasn't gone a bit Keith Flint when 'Firestarter' comes on in the club?
Metallica: Off the back of Through the Never and on the way to writing new material, Hetfield and company are riding high at the moment. They are one of the best live bands on the planet. End of. Hold out for some serious head banging when 'Enter Sandman' drops. Also we may get to hear some of that fabled new material...
Iron Maiden: The real life Spinal Tap embodied by Bruce Dickinson and company are one of the UK's most prevalent metal acts, influencing all who came after with their unmatched guitar work and harmonization. The only way to truly describe Iron Maiden is the word 'epic'.
Deftones: The thinking-man's metal band are making only one stop on the UK festival circuit this year, stopping off for a special show at Sonisphere. Live, Chino Moreno and company are something to behold, both nostalgic with tracks like 'Back to School' and forward thinking tunes such as 'Swerve City'.
Limp Bizkit: A band that have completed a full circle and become so bad it's good. Yes we'd rather not listen to them in the office but we have heard mythical tales of how amazing 'Rollin' and 'Nookie' were live at Download last year. Count us in.
Mastodon: Beefed-up riffs and huge solos, Mastodon take the stoner-rock sounds of Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss and beef them up into a whole new level. The band will also be previewing new material, which is hugely exciting for rock fans everywhere.
Anthrax: A metal band who know how to have a good time, Anthrax survived the 80s hair metal boom and evolved into something altogether different over the last decade. Musically accomplished and with a devious sense of humour they are bound to tear it up live.
Dropkick Murphys: Everyone knows 'Shipping Up To Boston' from The Departed, however there is so much more to this band. One of the best festival acts on the planet, they combine a riotous punk sensibility with Irish folk. Expect skanking and whisky.
Slayer: Seeing 'Reign In Blood' live is one of the most terrifying and exhilarating experiences on this green earth.Like a metal apocalypse, the skies will thunder, the circle pits will open and if you are like us you'll run to the back in fear. Truly great - but scary as hell if you are at the front.
Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls: Fresh from his stadium tour, Turner will be pulling out the big guns at Sonisphere. No doubt he will be performing the numerous tracks that landed him the support slot with Green Day and led to him becoming a firm crowd favourite.
Reel Big Fish: These pop punk ska legends know how to have a good time, creating an infectious atmosphere that takes you right back to the days of watching Capdown at the Astoria. They are awesome and we look forward to spilling our drinks everywhere while skanking to 'Beer'.
Alice in Chains: Yet more metal legends for the line up, Alice in Chains released a stellar album in 2013 and dominated at Download last year. They have so much more to them than the classic 'Them Bones', but still it will be time to rock out when it gets played.
