Beyonce fans are being warned by police about fake tickets to the star's Mrs Carter UK gigs, which have been sold to more than 140 individuals for the UK leg world tour.
British Transport Police estimate that £28,000 worth of fake tickets were sold for the star's gigs at Manchester's Phones 4U Arena, with fears that more could circulate ahead of this weekend's London shows. Anyone who has bought a fake ticket has been urged to contact police with details of the purchase.
"We believe there have been more than 140 sets of fake tickets sold, though only seven victims have come forward so far," said Detective Constable Mike Dermody in a statement to the press. "Each transaction has taken place over the internet, using public selling websites, with the victims arranging to meet someone in Manchester to pick up the tickets.
"In most cases the tickets have sold for at least £100 each and each victim has bought at least two tickets, so we are potentially looking at a fraud worth more than £28,000," Detective Constable Mike Dermody said.
"It seems that someone has been selling fake tickets to concert goers who only realise the tickets aren't genuine when they get to the venue."
A spokesman for the Phones 4U Arena urged gig goers to ensure tickets were only purchased through verified online retailers, saying: "We can report a small number of fans arrived at the venue with counterfeit tickets.
"We immediately notified [British Transport Police] of fraudulent activity and have passed the matter onto them.
"Whilst we fully understand the frustration felt by fans we can only urge people to purchase tickets via official sources as this is the only way to guarantee entry to the show."
