Manic Street Preachers kicked off their latest UK tour, debuting new material from their upcoming album Futurology in Leeds last night (Friday 28 March, 2014). Watch footage of them playing new tracks below
Taking to the stage at the First Direct Arena supported by the Eagulls, the Welsh stadium punk icons played the first of their Spring tour dates, delivering a career-spanning set that leaned on last year's Rewind The Film and the 20th anniversary of the seminal 1994 classic The Holy Bible, as well as showcasing new tracks.
Kicking off the post-punk masterpiece 'Faster', the band then tore through a string of fan favourite singles before debuting 'Europa Geht Durch Mich' - a stomping krautrock anthem in tribute to European life, driven by a pulsing motorik beat. There's also some German lyrics in there, which sounds really cool.
They also premiered the title track from Futurology - a wonderfully typically Manics slice of arena rock in the vein of tracks from Everything Must Go lifted by the punky enthusiasm of Generation Terrorists, but with a soulful Nicky Wire vocal in the chorus. If these new songs are anything to judge by, Futorology is going to be thoroughly excellent.
