Support slots are never easy things to play. Whether you are a veteran band or a new act trying to work your way up the food chain, the punters aren’t usually there to see you as well. Captain proved this theory, as a lacklustre response from the crowd showed that this band have still got a long way to go before their melodious but pretentiously over literaturised pop was not received particularly well. Yes they are all definitely good musicians, but boring pop songs lacking hooks and charisma aren’t going to get these guys far. Captain are a band that are definitely on the brink of doing something good as most of their tunes showed promise yet were let down by weak delivery.

By the time Delays graced the stage this evening, their fans were obviously eager to hear what their new material was going to be like, and whether these lads still had the harmonious chops to pull tonight’s gig off, as it had been a while since Delays had hit the Liverpool circuit. Yet as soon as they walked on stage and hit those first notes, they proved any would-be cynics wrong.

Opening up with new material is not always a good idea, but it seems Delays have been working hard to top ‘Faded Seaside Glamour’ as tracks like ‘This Town's Religion’ and ‘Valentine’ far surpassed any expectations that this loyal crowd may have had. Delays performed with the confidence of a band about to play Wembley stadium yet were chatting with the crowd and taking requests just as if they were playing in their living room. Their constant humble approach and love of their fans showed as dedications to loyal punters rung out as each person in the room sang along to hit after hit from their first record. Some even surprising the band as to how they knew some of their new songs before their second album had even hit the shelves. It would seem the internet leaked tracks had got around.

Delays were on form every step of the way tonight, pumping out tune after tune and brandishing tracks off their new record ‘You See Colours’ that is sure to sit in any lover of harmony laden indie pop. One can only hope we will see them again very soon.
