When embarking on a headline tour and attempting to announce yourselves as one of the biggest British bands around, there are a lot of decisions to make. There’s more to it than just turning up and playing a good set.

This wasn’t an issue for Two Door Cinema Club, however, as the decisions they made turned out to be inspired.

Appointing english quartet, Bastille as the warm-up was a brilliant choice. During Bastille’s set, you’d be forgiven for thinking the main act were on stage, such was the enthusiasm of the Brixton crowd and the quality of performance. It’s no wonder that Two Door Cinema Club wanted one of 2013’s hotly tipped bands to go before them and warm things up. Bastille’s cover of ‘Rhythm of the Night’ whipped the gig-goers into a frenzy that continued long into the night.

Another key decision that added to a party atmosphere was the playlist chosen before TDCC were due to hit the stage. As if Bastille hadn’t done enough to excite the crowd, classic 90s dance tracks such as Darude’s ‘Sandstorm’ and ‘Set You Free’ by N-Trance made for an electric mood.

Lead singer, Alex Trimble battled against losing his voice

So, with the stalls literally jumping with excitement, on came three lads from Northern Ireland ready to end their Tourist History UK tour on the highest note possible.

Giving the crowd exactly what they wanted from the very first song, TDCC played lead track ‘Sleep Alone’ from their second album Beacon before going into a three song salvo from their debut album Tourist History. ‘Undercover Martyn’ and ‘Do You Want It All’ were great reminders of what made the trio so popular. Catchy pop songs delivered with energy and a pitch-perfect vocal.

Lead singer, Alex Trimble claimed to be losing his voice, but you couldn’t tell. The fiery haired frontman swapped between a cold bottle of beer and a glass of hot tea to try and stem his throat pain. However, it seemed that nothing could stop them on their big night as Trimble declared: “I’m losing my voice, but I’m going to sing until I’ve got no voice left.”

Trimble, along with bandmates Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday went on to play the majority of their second album Beacon ensuring the same quick tempo that had laced the gig so far before a big finish.

Just as the opening chords of ‘Eat That Up, It’s Good For You’ began, white balloons floated from the ceiling to create what can only be described as euphoria amongst the bouncing crowd.

The giant balloons continued to float around for TDCC's encore which consisted of ‘Someday’, ‘Come Back Home’ and ‘What You Know’.

Before storming into the last and most eagerly awaited track of the night, ‘What You Know’ Trimble seemingly speechless told the crowd: “Thank you so much for making tonight so f*****g unbelievabley amazing. I’m still kind of lost for words.”

Undoubtedly one of the best tours of the year with so much to offer in terms of great atmosphere and fantastic pop songs. You are left with an uncompromising urge to keep the TDCC party going.
