'David Bowie is back' - now there's a statement we never thought we'd be writing a few months ago, but Bowie's surprise return to music this year has been one of the highlights of 2013.

Following the sudden release of 'Where Are We Now' in January this year, excitement has gathered for the release of The Next Day, and now the wait is over. This week sees the release of one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of the year so far, and having heard the album, we can assure you that The Next Day does not disappoint.

Bowie's ten year break from music has done nothing to diminish his distinct style and iconic sound, and The Next Day is our album of the week. Check out all you need to know about the record below...

1. David Bowie - The Next Day album review
"Can the hype be justified? Has Bowie truly delivered ‘something seismic’ or is the world just relieved that a true genius of invention and reinvention has returned? An OK Bowie album is still unfathomably better than about 90 per cent of records clogging up the charts after all. So, where are we now?"

Our Gigwise writer Andrew Trendell takes apart The Next Day one song at a time, in a special track by track review. Click here to read the review in full.
