This is how to do Friday night at Brixton Academy rock n’ roll style. Putting on 90 minutes of pure adrenaline-inducing, mosh-pit heavy, honest, Britpop inspired rock, Miles Kane’s live show is the perfect sweaty indie rock gig to kick off the weekend.
Whilst Miles’ music may seem unpretentious and humble, he certainly doesn’t lack in personality. Bouncing up and down in his signature suave suit, it’s evident that Kane is a born rock-star in the classic sense. Maybe even a bit of a diva. That’s never a bad thing though. After all, isn’t rock n’ roll all about the personality?
Every ounce of his exuberant personality smacks of glee and put simply, fun. The music is quite as big, bold as his own personality. Most importantly, it’s loud. With little said in between songs, every song played off his album released earlier in the spring of this year, Don’t Forget Who You Are is played with such gusto and fervour, it’s near impossible to not appreciate Kane’s energy. And the crowd match that energy. Nearly every lyric is shouted by every audience member at the top of their lungs, arms wave in all directions and it goes without saying that a fair share of beer is thrown in the air…
Before launching into the infectious riff of 'Inhaler' Kane asks the audience "do you like a riff Brixton?" And of course they respond with roars of delight and bounces in all directions. Yet it's evident from the smirks with his backing band that Kane knows that they absolutely love it.
When coming to the closing song of the evening 'Come Closer' Kane, in his Liverpudlian accent, demands that the audience "fucking 'ave it!!" Something that of course, he succeeds in making them do, and most importantly he does himself, making this one impressive, and dare I say, crowd-pleasing live show.
