Peace are the band of this year, proving that sometimes, all of these tastemakers, journalists and pundits are actually getting it right. Touted by nearly everyone as the next big thing in indie at the end of last year, Peace have proved all the critics right, soaring from height to height this year with the release of their spectacular debut album In Love, sold-out live dates around the UK and America and of course a packed festival season.
That’s why tonight, is a perfect celebration for the band.
More importantly though, this celebratory atmosphere comes from the crowd. It’s almost the end of 2013 and what better way to let loose than see the now confirmed indie band of the year; these are the songs that tonight’s crowd have lived this year along to. The crowd cheer and yell out of pure ecstasy when infectious, blindingly brilliant tracks such as ‘Wraith’ and ‘Higher Than the Sun’ are played.
What makes the band’s performance even more special is that Peace aren’t taking this reception for granted. Playing with vigour and elation, frontman Harrison Koisser thanks the audience in a genuine manner and the quartet play with a kind of spring in their step.
Yet whilst everyone in the venue might be celebrating this year, it’s clear from Peace’s confidence and poise that they’re not going anywhere. Indeed, they’ve been talking about their new album to Gigwise saying that they “feel strongly about this record and it seems like its going to be really good." And after hearing a new song entitled 'Money' this evening, it’s hard to not get excited about their future.
Getting into the festive spirit, Peace play a playful cover of Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ which is the perfect surprise to bring out tonight. But the evening ends with a bang when the whole audience bounces to 'Bloodshake'. This is done with enough energy to prove that Peace are certainly not an indie fad; they’re here to stay.
