This was the gig that everyone in Leicester has been waiting for, not only that, but this is the gig that Kasabian themselves have been waiting for too. The atmosphere in the city centre was absolutely buzzing, pubs packed to the rafters, the sun out and everyone getting in the spirit for what was about to take place.
Hometown shows are always special, and with this one week before their headline Glastonbury performance, there was an air of anticipation about just how big a show these Leicester boys could pull off. The answer? Pretty big!
With many people disappointed with the support line-up, they were proved wrong as the DJ sets before the main event worked a treat in getting everyone in the mood. The city centre location of the gig made it even more special. You got the impression that 99% of those in attendance were from the city and it was like a gift back to the city. A gift back from Kasabian to the city they call home and the hometown fans that had stuck by them.
As the sun set, a huge clock at the back of the stage was running down, and as it hit 00:00 the band made their appearance. The atmosphere was nothing short of electric as they began to run through favourites including 'Shoot The Runner' and 'Underdog'. The performance was faultless, the sound was excellent and nobody could deny that this was a band worthy of the success they’ve achieved.
The set ran through old songs as well as new tracks off the recently released No.1, 48:13. As they played the opening chords of 'Fire', the song that is played at the stadium whenever newly promoted Leicester City score a goal, the crowd went insane. This here, this 3 minutes, was Leicester through and through - and you could tell the band couldn’t be prouder as they took to the mic and stated “Leicester, thank you! You’ve made my f*cking year!”
No, Kasabian, you’ve made ours!
