Dan Sartain – ‘Flight Of The Finch’ (One Little Indian) Released 29/01/07

Mariachi horns and Pulp Fiction style guitar hooks? Ornithological lyrics sung by a crooner who wouldn’t have been out of place in Memphis circa 1956? What the hell is going on here exactly? With Dan Sartain, you’re never really sure. A rockabilly punk with a penchant for tunes that should be soundtracking spaghetti westerns, he has certainly found a niche. ‘Flight of the Finch’ highlights Sartain’s magnificent ability to blend metaphor and vivid imagery to excellent effect. “He’s got no use for words, he’s the weakest of the birds”. No such trouble for this eccentric troubadour. Like an Alabaman Patrick Wolf, Sartain is wise and talented beyond his years. When you listen to his music, you know he is revealing a little bit of his own, eccentric world for you to peer into. A true one-off in an age when such a thing barely exists.
