A truly striking voice in alternative pop, Lyza Jane is one to watch for 2015. Watch her video for 'If It Hurts' below on Gigwise first.

Having supported Alabama 3 and recently worked with reggae royalty Ranking Joe, Lyza's new video as strange and striking as her sound. "Despite looking like Barbie’s bad trip, the video’s got a really moody tone too it" she tells Gigwise. "It’s a song about making mistakes and not knowing what you want.... so I think the creation of the video really reflects this!"

The video was shot by Lily Ashley and was particular chaotic in its conception. "The day before the shoot we spent the afternoon in Shepherd's Bush getting fabric and came across the ball pit balls in a toy shop. We had already found the duck masks so we were like 'Oh hey ducks in a bath of balls, that would look rad."

To mark the release Lyza talked discussed festivals, studio sessions and what she learned from touring with Alabama 3.

Gigwise: What festival are you looking forward to most this summer and why?
Lyza Jane: I’m so excited for Glastonbury, it’s always been my favourite time of year. I played the Rabbit Hole last year and it was one of the best experiences so I’m super happy to be playing again. There’s also lots of exciting stuff happening at The Joe Strummer Foundation (Strummerville) camp. We’re in a whole new area and have our own little acoustic stage which I hope to do something on as well.

Who else is particularly inspiring you at the moment?
For producers I love Tricky, Lee Scratch Perry, Madlib and of course Grimes. They all have such a unique style: you can put on any of their tracks and recognise it’s them immediately because they don’t sound like anyone else.

Have you ever seen Grimes perform live?
No, I can't believe it! She's at the top of my list to see live. I've spent hours watching her on Youtube though. She has total creative control over all aspects of her work and that's something I definitely aspire to.

Who is the MC that features on If It Hurts?
It's Ranking Joe! I'm so blessed to have him feature on a track. He came down to the studio with Daddy Freddy and some friends when I was working on something new in Brixton. I put the hook down and then they all ended up jumping on it, So It's actually a sample from the outtakes of the track we collaborated on. It just fit so well we had to get it on to 'If It Hurts' too!

Can you tell me more about your other studio collaborations?
I've worked with a few people but it wasn't until I started to produce myself that I really discovered what kind of music I wanted to make. Recently I’ve been working with a producer called Greg Fleming (aka 'Wizard’) in Brixton. He's amazing, I met him through working with Alabama 3 and he totally shares my vision plus we get on so well.

The studio in Brixton’s great, there are so many diverse acts popping in and out, it's a great place to find people to collaborate with. As I mentioned, I have a track with Daddy Freddy, Ranking Joe and Supa4 from Trojan coming out this summer, it's such a fun, upbeat track. And then my EP Milk Teeth is a mixture of tracks I've recorded at home, with Greg and one that I did years ago in LA with Danny Saber.

What did you learn from going on tour with Alabama 3?
So much! I learned that sleep is important and a tour bus is no place to find it! But I’ve learnt everything from them, I love those guys. I always go to Rob for advise and Aroura's been a huge inspiration for me, in the studio and on tour.

What do you think everyone should bring to a festival but everyone forgets?
Gaffa tape! You always need it for something.
