Until very recently, Is Tropical were a band of undeniable mystery.

A young trio from London who used to perform exclusively in veils (we're not quite sure why), they first broke through in 2009 with a raw sound that found charm through it's simplicity. Debut single 'When O When' intrigued French pop connouiseurs Kitsune Records enough to sign them, which in turn led to the release of a long awaited album in 2011, as they wowed audiences across Europe with their fresh embrace of synth pop that the label has become synonymous for.

That same year saw Is Tropical go viral, as the Megaforce-directed video for 'The Greeks' clocked over three million views on Youtube with its reimagining of kids playing into a comic book-esque warzone, winning a ridiculous number of awards at the time and giving the group a unrivaled publicity.

Their anticipated return earlier this year proved that lightning does in fact strike twice, as the video for single 'Dancing Anymore' caused a fiasco on Youtube for its borderline pornographic content, being taken off within hours, finding a new viral home on Vimeo as views continue to rise by the million.

'I'm Leaving', Is Tropical's second album dropped last week (20th May) and sees the band take their sound into more ambitious, grander territories, ditching the veils in the process. We headed down to Hoxton Galleries the day before their album launch to catch up with the trio, who also performed past single 'Yellow Teeth' exclusively for Gigwise.

Watch Is Tropical's stripped down performance below.

The group recently made headlines after becoming one of the first Western bands to perform in Mongolia as part of a documentary which aimed to encourage artists to tour there in the future.

The threesome also have a string of festival dates closer to home set for the summer, including performances at Bestival, Rock en Seine and Reading and Leeds. For more information visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
